FRAGMENT OF THOUGHT
The door to my Grandmothers flat. For a lot do my family and relatives this door or familiar is the first sign of our collecting ‘home’. The family is spread all over the world but we have this home in common. They have all touched this door turned the key left a scratch on the wood. Four generations come here and call it home and what makes this more special is that not all generations are still on Earth so it is a link to people that went before us.
This was taken during a family gathering at the end of the day. There are traces of 5 generations and the sight of 4. The image shows similarities in how grandfather and grandson stand, hands behind the back and looking down, most likely evidence they went through National Service and is how the services require the men to stand. On the right is father comforting the daughter. In the foreground on the left is the second generation mother. The first and oldest generation isn’t visible in body, however it was his house initially, their are still ornaments out from that time pre1900 photographs and object. I feel this image captures the generations but also the different way people live and style of house they have.
